A Lichen Sclerosus interview .

BlackRose57's interview

How did all start?

I noticed, over several months to a year, that my clitoris was turning white, severely itching and burning, intercourse was getting painful (horrific burning of vagina and itching of vulva area). I have been dealing with menopause since I was 45 years old...I am now 56.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes...diagnosed as of 1/6/2020. I tought I had a yeast infection...my family physician examined and new right off exactly what I was dealing with -- LS.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

My family physician prescribed me to start using a steroid ointment called Triamcinolone Acetonide (Kenalog). Try for 2 weeks...if no change...referred to see a Dermatology specialist.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Mentally/Emotionally/Physically...reframing from intercourse.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Just got married 1yr ago, 2018...just before the honeymoon, I started having issues with having intercourse...it's January 2020...it's not getting any better.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

This evening...I will sit down with my spouse to share with him this unexpected medical issue...not sure what to expect...I almost want to tell him to divorce me....

What things have you stopped doing?

Intercourse...the fear of what it will do to me knowing now what has been causing me so much pain and lack of desire....

What do you think about the future?

Not sure...won't know until I have this discussion with my spouse.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

At 49yrs old, 2013, I retired from federal civil service...best thing I could have done for myself. At 54 years old, after 35+ years, my high school sweetheart came looking for me. We got engaged in 2017...got married in 2018.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Keep counting my blessings....

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Reborn...

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

I'm keeping the faith that my spouse will be compassionate, understanding...and that God will continue to keep me healthy, happy, blessed & loved.
