How did all start?
Over a year ago I had what I thought was a yeast infection, so bad that I went to an urgent care, they prescribed cream and was not sure of exactly what it was and told me to see my Doctor, I did and they were not sure either so they sent me to a gynecologist, was told it was lichen, with a steroid ointment and Hormone cream she told me to use it and come back in a month, no real instructions on what it is or how to handle the issue, I had fusing of the Vulva also, I chose a specialist an hour away to continue my search and research on the disease.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Took about 6 months or more to find out it is lichen.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
Steroid cream and a multitude of other products to deal with the pain and itch.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Clobetasol steroid
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Burning, itching, tearing, fusing of the labia, painful sex
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
They don’t understand, are not aware and yes things have changed, you suffer in silence.
What things have you stopped doing?
Sitting is uncomfortable when in a flare, sex is out of the question, and many other activities.
What do you think about the future?
I’m scared, praying this does not turn into cancer.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
I lived a normal life till this disease, now I have many more issues since.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Live normally again.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Wonderful, until this diagnosis.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
There is hope...and I will give her all the information that has helped me endure the really rough times I have been through.
