A Celiac Disease interview , Cystinuria.

Anna's interview

How did all start?

I first started getting sick as soon as Mum put me on solid foods as a baby. I was constantly vomiting and got very sick.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

I have been diagnosed since I was a baby, it took approximately 1.5 years before we got the diagnosis. By the time I was diagnosed, I looked like a starved African child.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

I don't understand the question

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Gluten free foods being more readily available nowadays.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Companies changing the recipe on my favourite foods.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

I grew up with it, so nothing really changed. It's just a part of my family's life.

What things have you stopped doing?

N/A - Grew up with Coeliac Disease

What do you think about the future?

Nothing, really, it's just a fact of life.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

That is a difficult question, most of my life so far hasn't had any distinguishable awesome period.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

I would go into a bakery and buy fresh squishy bread and eat it.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Life stinks but you have to make the most of it.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Get an official diagnosis, nag your doctor if you have to. There are benefits to getting officially diagnosed and so many things you miss out on when you're on a gluten free diet unnecessarily.
