Cyclic Neutropenia From Birth

May 21, 2017

I was born with Cyclic Neutropenia, at first they called it congenital and then diagnosed it as cyclic when I was about 7 years old. They determined through testing a few of my relatives whom volunteered that it was hereditary on my father's side. However in the 60s and 70s there was little known about Geneitic mutations and I did not have access to GSF treaments.

I went to a specialist in my home town whom dealt with childhood diseases, and went through many blood tests. As an infant I suffered many infections, boils and meningitis and chronic ear infections. During low cycles my parents would try to isolate me as much as possible and take care to ensure I had plenty of rest and healthy diet (growing up on a farm I had plently of access to natural unprocessed foods). As I entered adolescence I seemed to improve without any treatments, my cycles at times were to amlost Nil count. When I was 30 during the birth of my daughter my Neutrophil count was .01 but later increased to 2. My count reaches almost normal levels when not compromised, however I am always in the low category but my CBC is often normal.
