A Lichen Sclerosus interview .

Angela Harrington's interview

How did all start?

Whitening of skin in the vaginal area and painful intercourse.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Took about 2 years to get a diagnosis.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

Been treated by an OBGYN, Dermatologist and Gynecological Oncologist. Most recently received the Stem Cell Lift by Dr. Nathan Newman who is a Plastic Surgeon and board certified Dermatologist. Dr. Newman so far has been the most help.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

So far the Stem Cell Treatment has provided the most results.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Having intercourse has been the most difficult for me as I tear so easily.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

They have all been supportive. So far I haven’t had any changes in that area. I don’t think most people understand how serious LS is.

What things have you stopped doing?

I have begun a Paelo diet, so stopped eating processed sugars, gluten etc.

What do you think about the future?

I don’t know. I try to remain positive and hope my marriage and self esteem aren’t affected too much, but it’s scary.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

My late 20s ans early 30s. I felt like a normal woman, and was able to have sexual intercoirse wirh my husband without crying in pain. I wasn’t dealing with this diagnosis then.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

I would like to just not have it giving me anxiety every day. I would like to move around without feeling uncomfortable and would like to have intercourse with my husband like a normal married couple.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

My life is a constant battle between depression/ anxiety and trying to remain positive about the present and future.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Look at all methods of treatment, even the ones that are coming down the pipeline (i.e. Stem Cell Treatment). What works for one may not work for the other.
