Story about Spinal Stenosis , Myofascial Pain Syndrome.

Life with cervical spinal stenosis and MPS

I just recently resigned from my work where I spent 27 years of my life. I resigned because I was so exhausted of working while in pain, explaining my chronic pain condition to bosses and co workers, who cannot really understand what I’m going through… and I cannot blame them for sometimes I also can’t understand my condition. Even some friends and members of family can’t understand. This condition makes you feel so alone sometimes. People’s reaction to me sometimes makes me feel like they’re thinking I am just pretending that I am in pain when actually, what I am doing most of the time is pretend I am okay.. they just don’t know that I get tired also of hearing myself complain all the pain that I have.
When I decided to see a doctor in November 2018, the initial diagnosis is carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. I didn’t complain of the stiffed neck and back pain coz I was used to having them. I was referred to a rehab doctor who prescribed 6 sessions of PT. There where no improvements after 12 sessions so the rehab doc put me on EMG-NCV test and we found out that it’s not CTS but bilateral chronic cervical radiculopathy from c5-c7. I also took an MRI and the result says I have disc bulge, herniated disc and stenosis in 2 levels which is the cause of radiculopathy and sooner, I developed MPS because of the radiculopathy.
Leaving my job has reduced my stress greatly.. the stress coming from work then made my pain worst. I have my PT once a week for the past 2 months.. I am researching resources on managing MPS in the internet and youtube.. I spend time with supportive friends once in a while.. and it helps a lot.. I also ask help with doing groceries and sometimes some household chores but I tried to do as much as I can on my own.. I try to celebrate my “accomplishments” such as simple as changing my beddings or cleaning my room.. it helps when you realize and be grateful that there are still things that you have control.
I hope we all will find meaning in this pain we are going through.
