Story about Sturge Weber Syndrome .

From a sister's point of view

Apr 21, 2016

I'm 5 years younger than my brother with Sturge Weber Syndrome and we grow up together with our parents in Sweden. We both now have our own apartments in different towns, I have a cat and my brother has a dog. Our parents work in the theatre business and I would say we had a great childhood. We both had friends in the neighbourhood. I was a stubborn kid that often got angry but creative and imaginative. My brother was very kind, helpful and curious. He was a great brother. I remember that I wanted him to watch when I performed for him in the bed, miming to cd’s. He had a great patience! Later my brother has had doubts about what other people think about him and it’s not too simple to find friends. That makes me so sad because he deserves so much more. But I am glad that he has something to do in the days, that he has his dog and that he has some friends. My brother’s dog is so great, the dog really relies on my brother and follow him everywhere. They have a wonderful connection!

I think that I have learned a lot by having a brother with a syndrome. I have learned to see people as individuals and to not change my behaviour to much just because I meet someone that have a syndrome. I meet people with the interest to get to know them. That is something I value a lot, especially in my education, I study to become a teacher.
