A Syringomyelia interview .

Sam's interview

How did all start?

Chronic pain in random places; headaches, legs, arms, neck, numbness in hands, feet etc until a constant nagging burning pain in upper left shoulder, scapula and into breast that would not cease. After an MRI, Bone Scan and X-Ray; the elongated cyst in my thoracic spine determined I had Syringomyelia.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

Yes. I used to be very active and social. Now all I do is work, eat, sleep, repeat!

What things have you stopped doing?

Running, outdoor activities, socialising, gym and basically anything that involves a lot of activity.

What do you think about the future?

I am worried about my children - I want to be able to see them marry and see my grandchildren.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Painful and lonely...

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

I’m actually hoping I can meet people in a similar position so I know I’m not alone and there are other people like me :)
