Story about Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency .

Just the beginning. . .

Dec 23, 2015

After years of having breathing issues I was diagnosed in 2010 by a respirology specialist as an Alpha 1. My type was ZZ. At that time I had a @70 percent lung capacity.  After the results I was pretty much not given any follow up until testing again in May 2015. In June of 2015 I received the results that my lung capacity was now 46 per cent. Since that time it has been a battle to get treatment. Our private benefit plan does not cover Prolastin and we are currently trying to get help through our provincial government. Without financial assistance the cost of @60,000$ annually is out of our reach and so we continue to go through the beaurocratic hoops hoping one day to get the treatment that will slow down the decline in my lung function.
