How did all start?
Acute pain in the right side of my neck that slowly went away again. Suddenly I could'nt feel my right leg. I called an ambulance and went to the Er. It took about 7 hours for them to find out that it was an aortic dissection type A. Acute operation for 10 hours, woke up after 5 days. I have fully recovered, just one of my kidneys has died from loss of bloodsupply. Otherwise Im so grateful to feel as well as I do after something like this!
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
I have taken yearly CT scans and ultrasounds for the last 10 years, NO changes so every second year from now on.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
To meet all the other fantastic survivors both on the internet and most of all in real life!
What have been your biggest difficulties?
I was so scared the first 3-4 years that it would happen again!
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
Nothing has really changed for me, just that people are really in awe of what Ihave been through.
What things have you stopped doing?
Stopped smoking and started walking 10000 steps a day instead!
What do you think about the future?
Hope I will feel like I do now for a long time!
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Appreciating everyting, every day!
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Talk to other survivors and try to be positive. Think of how fortunate we are to wake up every morning. Thats how I feel!
