Lydia's interview
How did all start?
After a minor hernia surgery. Constipation blamed for pain meds. No other prior symptoms.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
The hernia surgery was on Feb. 13, colon cancer diagnosis March 9.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
Honestly, we have had the most help from our general phycian. He knows us the best and understands that when we have an issue we are not over reacting, like some of the other doctors do.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Colon care alliance have been awesome, a great place to ask questions and be around others going through the same things.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
He was a very active man before treatment, now he has spells of being bed ridden, eatting only beef noodles, not wanting to drink, etc.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
No sadly, most don't come around much. Finding help for household things is pretty impossible.
What things have you stopped doing?
Everything, not much of a social life at all.
What do you think about the future?
I just pray there is one. Taking it one day at a time.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
Lol I hope they are still to come
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Just be happy, oh and I would like to take him on a trip, he has never flown.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Karma, it's someone else's turn.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
One day at a time. Talk to someone who's been there, as kind as people can be they don't understand until they have been there.
