A Graves disease interview .

Rhonda's interview

How did all start?

I was overheating constantly, and having dizzy spells. I then developed severe, full-body tremors, and lost over 15 pounds in just over a month without trying (I had actually been eating more than normal), I have a lump on my neck, my heart had been racing, and I was exhausted.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes, I have a diagnosis of Graves' Disease. It didn't take long for the diagnosis to come. From the initial doctor's visit until Graves' diagnosis, it was just a few weeks.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

The lack of energy, the loss of stamina, and the emotional roller coaster.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

Everyone has been super supportive.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Get into a fitness/diet regimen to lose the extra weight that I have. I had just started down that road before the symptoms started. I am about 25 pounds overweight.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Follow your gut instincts to go see a doctor, and hope to find a good endocrinologist.
