How did all start?
Last thing i remember I had no use of my arms and legs. Don't remember the ambulance coming, putting me on the stretcher, the trip to the hospital or the hospital stay.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Yes Guillian barre, it took pretty much the whole hospital stay running various tests
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
I saw a neurologist, a psych neurologist, physical, occupational, speech therapist. Pt OT and SP have been the most useful .
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Learning to walk, talk and swallow again
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Walking.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
They have stayed the same
What things have you stopped doing?
Driving and working
What do you think about the future?
I am optimistic for the future.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
My 40's were probably the best years of my life . I lived carefree during that time. Did a lot of things I never thought I would.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Drive
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Positive
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Take one day at a time and expect this to be a slow process. GBS mascot is the turtle slow and steady wins the race.
