There are no latest advances. If anything, our nation and world has taken great leaps backwards. There has been great research showing that more than 55% of MSk patients live in constant pain, yet more than 80% of doctors refuse to read the studies and our nation refuses to treat the pain, making it harder for these patients to function. The incidences of stones increases and the ability to get treatment decreases, we get treated as drug seekers when we just want to know if our stones will pass and just want help. If you believe in a higher power, pray for a life without pain, keep moving, drink tons and tons of water and avoid animal protein, nut protein and salt.

As of now us MSK'ers feel very shafted by many in the medical world. It's so rare some drs will pass it off as if it's nothing. Some people who have MSK are completely benign to it whereas I have a horrible case. It's very much so malignant and active. It affects my ability to live a normal life. That's what is heart breaking because that's all I want for my children and myself.

Control of complications (eg, UTI, renal comic)

Surgery for specific complications due to MSK

Ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy and papillotomy is also referred to as a “Kidney Clean Out” for those with Cacchi-Ricci Disease.

Agree with above post. Also, my new nephrologist I saw today said he knows we have chronic pain.

He said it’s autosomal dominant, one copy can cause MSK but to a lesser degree. 2 copies and you have chronic issues. I have two copies, and he theorized both my grandparents did too based off family history. I have over 20 stones in each kidney and had one become embedded in my ureter, after 9 surgeries and procedures I had a partial ureterectomy and now my bladder is smaller and higher up.

MSK causes fluid to move quickly thru without filtering properly bc of the cysts and stones, which causes stagnation within the cysts which then causes stones to form (in some - likely in those with 2 copies).

Best thing to drink is coffee. It forces the kidneys to work and filters quickly, and in kidneys that move water thru too quickly to filter like with MSK, it makes you actually filter better. As best as you can at least. Moving and filtering quicker means less stagnation so less utis and stones. And of course follow the diet for the particular stone type you have.
