My daughter's gymnastics coach noticed her reduced range of motion and suggested she be looked at. Before the scheduled appt arrived she had a weekend where her elbow would lock or freeze in place and caused a lot of pain. We ended up going to urgent care where they weren't really sure but thought maybe she had a bone chip and gave her a splint. We heard of another Dr near and got an appt the next day who did more X-rays, MRI and proclaimed OCD, that had most likely been going on for over a year. She had bone missing from her humorous so just resting would not heal it. It took about a month for insurance to allow the OATS procedure using a donor bone. April 2016 she had her surgery. Only a few days later they had her in a removable splint so she wouldn't lose mobility. In August she was able to begin partial weight bearing. In January she was fully released back to gymnastics and continued to do her physical therapy until April. June 2017 she started complaining about pain again and we went back for more scans. There was a bone chip left previously (he said it could have made the bone graft unstable which was the biggest priority before) so went back for surgery to remove it in August. She's now 2 weeks out of the 2nd surgery and already regained her grip strength and most her ROM.
