Story about Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma .

The future is still bright after being diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma

Jan 23, 2021

Year Condition Began: 2017

I was just a teenager in 2017 playing baseball as a freshman in High School. My parents and I notice a small lump just under my right jaw line. We went to my general practicioner and she ordered an ultrasound to take a closer look. I had no symptoms at all and my family and I just wanted to make sure I was ok. When the ultrasound results came back there was nothing definitive of a cancer concern. The Rt submandibular salivary gland was slightly swelled to a size of 1.2 cm. I sure wish she would have just referred us to an ENT at that very moment. But, oh well, life went on and I continued playing baseball and living the life of a normal teenager. I graduated as an Under Armour pre season All American outfielder in 2019 and recieved an offer to play baseball at a couple of colleges. Life continued, but the little bump was still there. While playing baseball as at the start of my sophomore year, I finally decided that I needed to see a doctor about my condition. I still felt no symptoms and to this day still feel no symptoms. She referred me to an ENT surgeon and we decided to have the little bump which had now grown to 3.1 centimeters at it's widest point. The biopsy came back as having a positive margin for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. My family and I were completely shocked and couldn't believe the pathology results. The results did reveal some positive aspects and those were: Negative Vasucular Invasion, Negative Perineral invasion, Negative Metastacise, and was very localized with one microfocal nest of cribriform patterened cells on the black inked margin. We were told that it was extremely rare for a person my age and in that submandibular area of the throat to be diagnosed with this type of cancer. We were originally referred to a local Oncology ceter in Odessa, Texas. However, we decided to go to MD Anderson in Houston instead becausee they had seen ACC in this area of the neck and I would stand a better chance of having experts with experience help me get to NED and longer survivabilty. I will be going to my first appointment in late January 2021 and I am very eager to fight with everything that I have this terrible diseas. My family, friends, coaches are in full support of me and my mission to beat ACC and live a long healthy life. I will not lose hope and I will always have faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. I will be healed. I will be saved.
