A Anosmia interview .

Jennifer's interview

How did all start?

I had a bad cold that started on Dec. 28th 2017 and was very congested with no sense of smell or taste. On the morning of Dec. 31st I woke up around 5:00AM to go to the bathroom and started experiencing hot and cold sweats, and dizziness and blacked out and fell and hit the back of my head on a marble floor. Went to emergency and was told that I had an episode because I was dehydrated and because my blood pressure dropped suddenly I blacked out and that I would be fine. The cold lasted extremely long and after about a month I still had no sense of smell or taste.....and am still the same today.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

I still have not been diagnosed and am seeing an EN&T soon to hopefully get a diagnosis after seven months. So far my experience with my doctor and neurologist has been negative and hopeless as they both did not seem to know what to do or say....!!

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

I am seeing a naturopath and am taking homeopathc remedies as I need to try something and need hope.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

My Naturopath and my own research. Finding the Fifth Sense out of the UK and this site.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Understanding why I have this condition, getting answers from doctors who seem out of their element and not being seen as having a real health issue.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

I am easily agitated, frustrated, angered and have less patience so relationships and work life has been strained at times.

What things have you stopped doing?

Enjoying food, trying new recipes, cooking to satisfy a craving, having cravings, laughing, feeling relaxed or content, sleeping well, feeling happy....

What do you think about the future?

I want to be hopeful and am feeling like I have a fight on my hands.....

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Resume being whole and enjoying life with all of my senses. I would resume my focus on my life with my husband and our plans to travel more, I would like to be more involved with my church, and pursue my professional goals.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Right now my life is incomplete.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Don't give up and believe that your body is capable of healing. Your problem in not just physical and there are emotional and spiritual issues that also need to be looked at and addressed as part of finding the solutions and healing. Being whole is how Got created you (providing you were not born this way). I believe I will be whole again!
