Story about Arachnoiditis .

Journey to diagnosis

Jan 12, 2020

Year Condition Began: 2017

In July, 2017 I was doing a yoga exercise on a peanut shaped exercise ball where I had to roll back and forwards on it. During the exercise I felt a sharp pain in my back but didn't really think much of it. It was only when I went to stand up and use my sticks that my legs completely collapsed and my yoga teacher and my mum had to drag me out to the car. When I got home mum contacted my neurosurgeon and he ordered an urgent MRI scan. We then went to see him to get the results. He said he couldn't see anything on the scan so he arranged for me to be admitted a few days later. I had a number of tests including an EMG (Electromyography) which didn't show anything so was discharged a few days later and told it would get better by itself. However, 8 months went by and things hadn't improved so mum got my GP to refer me to another neurosurgeon at the same hospital. I saw him on 28th March 2018 and he had a look at the same MRI I had done previously and said I had a tethered spinal cord but wanted to admit me for ICP monitoring and he also wanted me to see a spinal surgeon. I finally got to see the spinal surgeon on the 25th September 2018 and he diagnosed me with Arachnoiditis
