How did all start?

I was in 2nd grade in like 2017-2018 and I would always get these bad ear infections ever since I was born and we went to my Pedatrican but he said it was nothing serious and that's when my mom was like no their is something else going on so she took me to an ENT his name is Dr.sherman I have to see him every 6 moths

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

the first time I seen him he diagnosed me with it and he said it was a miracle that I seen him when I did because if I didn't the cholesteatoma would have spreaded to my brain and I would have died so I was scheduled for surgery at first he was just going to do tubes but then realized he would have to do a lot more he took out a lot of the stuff in my ear including my ear drum I only have 10 precent hearing in my left ear now but in my right it's fine I just hope I don't get in in my right ear and a long after the surgery I got a hearing aid to help me hear better but I only got it during the summer before 4th grade .

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

my ENT Dr Sherman helped me a lot he always cleans my ears because no earwax comes out of my except for when I have ear infections

my hearing aid and my ENT

not being able to go swimming in the summer or take showers or go to a water park without earplugs

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

no everyone is very supportive but once in 4th grade someone told the teacher because they thought my hearing aid my a headphone but my teacher knew the story and told him that it was not a headphone it was a hearing aid

What things have you stopped doing?

really nothing except for not going swimming without earplugs

What do you think about the future?

I think it will be the same I'll have to go to a ENT but I will need to find a different one once I'm 18 because this ENT is for kids

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

the best year has been during 2018 because that's when I found out and it saved my life so I am super grateful for that

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

go scuba diving

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

rollercoaster of emotions

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

just do your best even when times get hard try to push through it because you are strong !
