ML1015's interview
How did all start?
I had already had six sets of ear tubes and I knew my ears were starting to get bad again. My mom called a new ENT and made me an appointment. At my first visit the dr. Said I had a growth on my ear drum and would need surgery as soon as possible.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Yes it took me about 4 years and six sets of tubes by a doctor who was a quack!
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
Surgery has been the only thing to keep my cholesteatoma away.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Going in every few months and having my doctor clean my ears
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Hearing. I had a hearing aid but due to my anxiety, it was impossible for me to wear.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
No. Everyone is really great about it.
What things have you stopped doing?
It’s hard for me to use headphones.
What do you think about the future?
I’m going to have to have surgery the rest of my life so i have just accepted it.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
2018 was a good year for me mentally and physically. I finally started getting my life back together.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Have a conversation with my friends without having to say “what” five million times.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
“What?”
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Don’t let a doctor put multiple sets of tubes in your ears. There’s no need!
