Question - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / M.E.

Do many severe ME patients in closed room get air hunger, but better if door open?

LBL did study of CO2 in air on thought and finds quite surprisingly, thought gets much worse if CO2 in outside air of 400ppmv, goes up from exhaled breath at 40,000 ppm, to raise room ambient to 1000ppmv or greater.

For my severe ME son  in a closed room with no house fan on or windows open, closed door room [CO2] goes up approx 250 ppmv per hour and gets to 1100ppmv in two hours and could go much higher overnight in closed room.

While many things contribute to air hunger incl metabolic issues etc, even healthy people can be affected by too much CO2, incl students in dorms esp if small or shared rooms, or homes, aged or infirm people who are bedridden etc.

I did buy $90 CO2meter.com CO2 monitor and now use this in my sons room.  Green lite if <800ppm, yellow light mean you should vent room with open door or oen window or house recirc fan.  For anyone bedbound in closed room such as to keep out sound, suggest you buy this or similar CO2 meter.

Please always buy via smile.amazon.com, not Amazon, and set up to have them automatically donate 0.5% from their funds, not yours, to your favorite listed non-profit, such as OPENMEDICINEFOUNDATION.ORG that fund POrof Ron Davis and Severe ME biomarker study in progress, which is leading biomarker study at moment.

I experience air hunger generally when I've burned through my energy reserves and have to adopt a meditation type breathing pattern to combat nausea and dizziness.  It happens to me inside or out but it does make sense that if it is occuring in a closed environment increasing the air flow would alleviate to some degree

I get it in bouts that last a few months. Docs don't seem concerned, though my air hunger does not appear to be typical presentation as defined. I will try opening the window next time to see if it will help.

If any question about whether CO2 buildup in room night make things worse, just go buy CO2meter.com from Amazon for example and run in your room 24 /7.  I just bought a second one to assess whole house vs sons room.  If whole house has high CO2 since pretty airtight, need to open windows.  If just sons room high, can open door and also run house recirculation fan 24/7, slightly added to power cost and noise, but better than him being more ill than needed.  Even with fresh air, people can often get air hunger and if even outside then this is external biochemical issue.  The lowest cost model works for me, or you can pay more for more features, datalogging etc.  I am fine with

CO2Mini Indoor Air Quality Monitor

If anyone can ask your state governor, or provincial leader etc to do a proclamatoin for ME awareness, and city mayors etc, this can increase chance to get Govt/NIH or philanthropic funding to Cure M.E.

Air hunger with this disease has puzzled me for a long time. I think it is caused by some dysfunction between exchange of oxygen and CO2 between the aveola and blood. I notice that when  yawn, I can breath easier.

When I take Primaforce Cissus, I can breath easier so on a higher levels, I think it may have something to do with cortisol level. In my case, it was high. Cissus is a glucocorticoid blocker. I sleep and breath much better.
