Mike's interview

How did all start?

Slipped and fell on some ice in December of 16. Had surgery March of 17 to repair a torn meniscus.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Took 5 months to get diagnosed. Was my second opinion doctor that originally diagnosed me with CRPS. Have had 4 other doctors confirm the diagnosis.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

Have seen several pain management doctor's. Have had 3 MRIs, a bone scan, an EMG, ultrasounds, etc.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Nothing

What have been your biggest difficulties?

This affects my left knee and down. Also won't allow my quad muscle to work, so walking is very difficult.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

My family has been very supportive. My 9 year old daughter has become my biggest helper. My social circle has been greatly diminished.

What things have you stopped doing?

Working. Hunting, fishing, playing sports. I have stopped doing almost everything I used to enjoy.

What do you think about the future?

Scared, but trying to hold on to hope. I am trying to stay out of a wheelchair.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

Any of the years I had before this. I have gone from someone who was always doing something, to someone who just sits at home.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Work. Fishing. Any sport.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Stolen.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Hold on to hope, and stay strong on your faith. Take time for yourself. Take breaks during research.
