A Cyclic vomiting syndrome interview .

gio.kate's interview

How did all start?

When I was a child I used to miss a lot of days off of school because I'd be ill for 1-2 days every 3 or so months.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

I basically just got my diagnosis this year (2021 at the age of 19) Doctors usually pushed it off as stress or too little exercise. I knew there was more to it so as I got older and more fed up of throwing up without reasing I started reaching out to more doctors. I also ended up staying at a hospital for a few nights which ended up with me getting these results.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

I have not been given useful medicine yet as I'm still new to this syndrom.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Hot baths/showers/waterbottles have been the best for me. I get a lot of relief from them. I also couldn't have manged without my family helping me fight for answers.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Work has been my most difficult challenge as many think I'm faking, which causes me stress and anxiety which then also triggers an episode. It's very much a vicious cycle.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

No relantionships have changed other than people are more worried about my well being.

What things have you stopped doing?

I've stopped going out to parties late and causing unnecessary stress to myself.

What do you think about the future?

I hope in the future I grow out of CVS and if I don't I hope I've found medicine or something to help me cope with it.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

Well I'd have to say around age 14-15 as I didn't have many troubles and I had a very closeknit friendgroup.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Live a normal life and be able to go to work everyday without having any kind of nausea during the day.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

My life is nothing out of the ordinary, it has ups and downs but the good always outweighs the bad.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Don't give up and don't let it take control over you. Show CVS who's boss! :)
