A Cyclic vomiting syndrome interview , Anxiety, Depression, Migraine.

Rachel's interview

How did all start?

Out of the blue. I became violently ill with nausea and vomiting and thought I had a virus, but then the same symptoms returned about two weeks later and then every three weeks after that.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes. Nearly 5 months.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

Gastroenterology and Neurology. Neurology has been the more helpful study as CVS is actually a neurological condition that is related to migraine.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

A prescription for Amitriptyline.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Missing work (and my paycheck) and missing out on many, many social engagements, time with friends and family.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

My family and friends were very supportive and continue to be.

What things have you stopped doing?

I'm okay now, but I couldn't do much more than lay in bed or in a hot bath for a full week out of each month from August until March.

What do you think about the future?

I'm a little nervous that it will come back, but at least now I know what it is and how to treat it.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

The past ten years. I have remarried and watched my children grow into fantastic young adults.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

I'm fine now - but this time last year, I would've given anything to be able to go for a drive in my Jeep with the top off, take a picnic, and go hike with my husband.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Now my heart is full.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Seek out support groups on Facebook or other social media and if you have CVS, talk to your doctor about Amitriptyline immediately! It truly gave me my life back.
