Dengue Fever symptoms

Dengue Fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The symptoms of Dengue Fever can vary from mild to severe, and it is important to recognize them early to seek appropriate medical care.

Symptoms of Dengue Fever:

1. High Fever: One of the hallmark symptoms of Dengue Fever is a sudden onset of high fever, often reaching 104°F (40°C) or higher. The fever is usually accompanied by chills and intense sweating.

2. Severe Headache: Dengue Fever often presents with a severe headache, which can be debilitating. The headache is typically located behind the eyes and worsens with eye movement.

3. Joint and Muscle Pain: Dengue Fever is commonly associated with severe joint and muscle pain, often described as aching or throbbing. This pain is also referred to as "breakbone fever" due to its intensity.

4. Rash: Many individuals with Dengue Fever develop a rash, which usually appears two to five days after the onset of fever. The rash often starts on the face and then spreads to the rest of the body.

5. Nausea and Vomiting: Dengue Fever can cause nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. These gastrointestinal symptoms may contribute to dehydration, which is a concern in severe cases.

6. Fatigue: Feeling extremely tired and fatigued is common in Dengue Fever. The illness can leave individuals feeling weak and exhausted, even after the fever subsides.

7. Mild Bleeding: Some individuals with Dengue Fever may experience mild bleeding, such as nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or easy bruising. However, severe bleeding is rare and usually occurs in a small percentage of severe cases known as Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.

8. Abdominal Pain: In some cases, Dengue Fever can cause abdominal pain, especially in the lower abdomen. This pain may be accompanied by persistent vomiting.

9. Swollen Lymph Nodes: Swollen lymph nodes, particularly in the neck and groin area, can be observed in individuals with Dengue Fever.

10. Respiratory Symptoms: Although less common, some individuals may experience respiratory symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, or difficulty breathing.

If you experience any of these symptoms and have recently traveled to an area where Dengue Fever is prevalent, it is important to seek medical attention promptly. Early diagnosis and appropriate medical care can help manage the symptoms and prevent complications.
