How did all start?
When I was pregnant at 34, I noticed a lump on my lower right abdomen. The doctor said it was a boil and instructed me to place hot cloths on it. After delivery, the lump had grown to 1 cm in diameter and I requested that it be removed. The diagnosis came after they tested the lump. I had to go back into surgery to remove more of the area until the margins tested clear.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
The diagnosis came within a week, but only because I pressed to have the lump removed.

Knowing there are others out there sharing the same experience.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Most doctors are not aware of the condition and it is largely misdiagnosed.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
No change.
What things have you stopped doing?
Suntanning or using tanning booths.
What do you think about the future?
No worries - whatever comes will come.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
My forties have been great - more travel.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Not applicable.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Expect the unexpected.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
You are the best advocate for you - if you aren't satisfied with answers from your doctor then ask more questions.
