Su's interview
How did all start?
Since I was a child, my parents noticed that my left eye didn't move as the right.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Yes. When I was younger, I was diagnosed with strabismus. Only 2 or 3 years ago a different doctor diagnosed me duane syndrome. So it toke me almost 20 years to be diagnosed with this syndrome.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
Ophthalmology
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Admit to others that I have a lazy eye, because most of the times I can disguise it. It's all about the angles.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
Only my family and closest friends are aware of it. I don't talk about this with other people. Actually, I don't talk about it. Even with my family, it is not a topic of conversation.
What things have you stopped doing?
I don't take too man photos. But when I do, I insist on appearing on my best side.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Take and post more photos.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Just like me, try to accept yourself as you are, day by day.
Embrace the differences, we're not the same, and this small "differences/imperfections...whatever" that's what make us unique. Be you :) You are so much more than that, we have a whole universe inside us.
