The compulsion to pick, pull, scratch, rub or otherwise irritate the skin resulting in lesions or sores. This condition must not be caused by drug or alcohol use or be better explained by another diagnosis. Picking with the deliberate attempt to harm yourself is better described as self harm when there is no compulsive component.
