Debbi's interview
How did all start?
I had to take cortisone for polymyalgia rheumatica which caused me to become diabetic which caused me to have neuropathy which morphed into erythromelalgia.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
A vascular surgeon finally diagnosed me after about 2.5 years.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Keeping my feet chilled is really the only reliable relief.
What things have you stopped doing?
Everything! I used to be a runner, even marathons, and now I can’t even walk out to my mailbox. I can’t drive, I can’t shop in a store, I can’t travel. I keep my house so cool no one wants to visit.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Travel to see my 94-year-old father. Be able to walk; maybe even run again.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Right now? Pretty sad.
