hi, I read an article about 2 weeks ago, I think it was in the NY Times that in Brazil doctors have seen some increased of GB with patience who contracted the Zika virus due that weakens the immune system yet they fail to confirm if they are related in one way or another but they mentioned in their report. It would be good to look for more articles and share. All the best

I don't think people are getting GBS because of a weakened immune system. My GBS was triggered by a virus, a stomach virus, my immune system got confused if grid beat the virus back. I think that's what's going on in Brazil. The Zica virus gets the immune system working and then it gets confused and picks a new enemy

I saw a press release over the weekend from the WHO indicating a correlation between increased number of cases of GBS and prevalence of the Zika virus although they said they had yet to recognise a causal link.  GBS is often caused by infections that cause similar symptoms to Zika eg. flu.  Therefore it would seem reasonable to expect Zika to be capable of triggering GBS.

I contracted GBS after suffering a nasty stomach bug...its all to do with an over aggressive immune system. Maybe anything to do with a severe attack on the human body can trigger the chain of events leading to GBS diagnosis. My auto-immune system is strong now and I am recovering slowly.

It's quite possible as any viral infection can insert itself into the nervous system and cause GBS.  That said GBS is relatively rare.  On the other hand however, GBS does not receive enough funding to fully understand who may or may not be most likely to end up with the syndrome.  In my particular case my weakened immune system did relate to my GBS, however that isn't necessarily true for everyone who has suffered with GBS.  At this point I would not worry that the Zika virus has a connection to GBS,
