Sra3165's interview
How did all start?
It started about 25 years ago, I had a spot that was itchy. It didn't bother me too much and I thought it was nothing because through the years many doctors have seen it (childbearing years) and 3 swabbed it to see what it was (but said nothing to me about it, just silently swabbed and that was it) and I figured if they didn't say anything then it was nothing. Fast forward to 10 weeks ago at my regular exam - I was diagnosed right away with this new doctor.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Research, finding a Naturopathic Doctor, and my husband.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Biggest difficulties are feeling isolated and alone, not getting a whole lot of answers from my MD, feeling ashamed and humiliated because I have this disorder.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
Haven't really told anyone. I am still at the extremely embarrassed stage.
What things have you stopped doing?
Stopped eating wheat and refined sugar.
What do you think about the future?
I'm afraid my sex life is going to suffer and that really scares me.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Eat normally - eating is so social and at every social event I can't eat the food. It's very isolating.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Research alternative healing ways, and listen to your body.
