I was diagnosed in 1997 after post op pneumonia. It's been pretty unremarkable (slight kidney involvement and thombocypenia) until 2010. During this time I never took medications to treat it.
2010 I had simple surgery and ended up with a Staph UTI from the catheter. 8 weeks of treatment at home, my Lupus was not involved, but I was having 40 degree temps. Hospitalized and I advised I had lupus and it would require treatment as it can be a opportunist. The hospital was not worried, 2 weeks in of my stay, I had odema, and things just got worse until they placed me in a induced coma for 2 days, I awoke to a EGFR of 13% and 20% of heart function, ds DNA of 45. My specialist advised that I would never get more than a EGFR of 30 and my heart would be permantly damaged.
Fast forward to 2016 and I have a EGFR of 50% and my heart is near normal :D
