How did all start?
When I was in college. For years people have noticed me turning red. But this last flare was different. My chest was bright red and hot to touch.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Yes once I went to doctor with exact symptoms and a video. Dr. Walter knew what to test for.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
Endocrinology, rheumatologist, respiratory, and cardiology. So far my rheumatologist does all the testing.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Plaquenil. It has stopped my pain. For right now.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Tired, sore, I was depressed knowing I was not normal.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
My husband has remained the same. I think some people accept it.
What things have you stopped doing?
Dancing I use to dance alot. I need to start again. I did go out and sing karaoke. My new hobby is genealogy.
What do you think about the future?
I'm hopeful that new drugs and technology may help.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
The ages of 21-30 I was constantly on the go. Lots of energy.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
I still do things regardless I do not let my disease stop me.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Very active and outgoing.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Try not to let it get you down. Find something to do that doesn't always have your mind on it a hobby.
