I am a native Floridian in my forties and we went out in the boat (10/2021) same as I had my entire life. I got in the water and when I got out, there was blood on my leg. I didn't think anything about it and got back in the water. 4 days later I was in so much pain and sick. I waited another 4 days before going to the hospital. I was septic (wbc over 23000) and in shock. I was transferred to another hospital where I underwent 4 surgeries in 8 days. I am very lucky! I died during my 2nd surgery and being septic did some bad things to my body but I am alive to tell about it. I spent 12 days in the hospital, went home for 6, realized they sent me home too early and spent another 9 days. Went home with a wound vac and was done with that within 2 months.
My life with never be the same. I've lost everything because of this disease. The worst part is there's no one to blame.
Now the boat has been sold and I will never go near water again, I guess Florida may no longer be for me.
