Error
How did all start?
I was 6 months pregnant and my stomach was constantly hard. I sent to have an ultrasound.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
I immediately was sent to U.C.S.F. when Mt Zion discovered serious concerns regarding the baby's life. I was informed my baby had a birth defect and heart defect/ disease.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
My son was being followed by a Pediatric Cardiologist and other specialists. U.C.S.F. , LUCILLE PACKARD CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, and Stanford Hospital.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
It was difficult for some people around me to remain in my life because they could not handle the knowledge of my son living a short life possibly. It was uncomfortable for many parents I met throughout my son's developmental years. Many people see disabilities before seeing the person and others want you to be emotionally broken, no one could understand where faith in God fit in and peace came from.
What things have you stopped doing?
My son was only instructed to avoid full on contact sports. I raised my son not his diagnosis. Encouraging him to live a quality of life and respect his limits.
What do you think about the future?
My son is currently 29 years old with a family of his own.
