How did all start?

Large lump in right breast in Aug 2020

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes, I was diagnosed with borderline PT in Oct 2020 after a lumpectomy. Had a reoccurance in Nov 2021. Had a mastectomy in Jan 2022 and diagnosed with MPT. Had CT and PET scans. Had 30 rounds of radiation therapy at the suggestion of my surgeon and review from tumor board.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

Breast cancer with reoccurance within a year of surgery. PET scan and review of pathology report by tumor board helped the most.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

PET scan

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Dealing with the breast drain after mastectomy. Had it for 17 days and it was uncomfortable, at times painful.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

Supportive and concerned. My family has helped with household chores and cooking more.

What things have you stopped doing?

I still do everything I was doing just being a little more careful not to overdo.

What do you think about the future?

I'm optimistic but guarded. I already know this tumor is relentless in returning and nothing in life is for sure.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

The years when my kids were growing up. Spending time with them, taking them to school and sporting events they participated in, vacations, birthday parties, etc. I now get to do some of that with great granddaughters.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

I do everything I want to do now

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Even though I have this bump in the road condition, I am still blessed to have reached my senior years with no other health conditions until now.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Stay strong and keep a positive outlook on life. Be vigilant and advocate for yourself. This is a rare tumor with little known about it and what is the best treatment for it and not all doctors are familiar with it.
