How did all start?
It was found my daughter had a recessed chin in utero
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
It was mentioned while I was 28 weeks pregnant but with lots of uncertainties
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
Cleft/craniofacial team along with ENT has been fantastic! From mandibular distraction to cleft palate repair to tubes in ears.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Currently Speech therapy is a big deal.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Each milestone had difficulties. Being in prime position before jaw distraction, Learning to drink with the haberman, before cleft repair eating and trying to avoid it coming out the nose, slight nerve damage, slight nasal sound speech and trying to correct it.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
Large support system. From immediate family to friends.
What things have you stopped doing?
Life goes on, there is no stopping my daughter!
What do you think about the future?
I feel confident for her! She's a strong little girl with her own personality.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
All of them! From vacations to living room dance parties!
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
If she didn't have it I would have loved to spend those 56 days within the Nicu at home!
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
It's been a roller coaster with no stop in site
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Breathe. And stay informed and do your own research, but remember your child is strong!
