Debbie's interview
How did all start?
General weakness and fatigue in previously unaffected muscles and limbs.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Yes, 3 years
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
None, Dr's don't know anything about PPS nor do they want to know!
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Rest...understanding my limitations and respecting them.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Trying to find a Doctor in a rural area who is willing to learn about PPS.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
Socially most aren't aware of anything but the most obvious physical limitations. My family are aware of the fatigue and pain, but their desire to assist and my stubborn sense of independence tend to clash.
What things have you stopped doing?
Cut way, way back on my volunteer work, and schedule events with rest days in between whenever possible.
What do you think about the future?
Terror
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
Mid life. I was very active with several volunteer activities: government entities, advocate agencies and social groups.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Travel, learn, contribute.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
A life of quiet desperation.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Keep trying.
