Carmen's interview
How did all start?
I had a complete heart block in July of 2013. Next next I had a pacemaker. I have cardiac sarcoidosis. Listed for heart transplant.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
2 1/2 years and many doctors.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
Cardiac sarcoidosis, Pulmonary sarcoidosis, Lymph nodes sarcoidosis, and trachea, sarcoidosis. CHF and high sugars due to prednisone.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
I think prednisone.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Shortness of breath, pain, energy. My Jection fraction is 15%
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
I had to stop working. I lost a lot of friends and I can’t do much.
What things have you stopped doing?
Going to the gym, diving, playing softball, working, flying, going on vacations, cruising.
What do you think about the future?
Not certain about my future. I need a heart transplant and I’m waiting for a donor match.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
I can’t remember
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Go back to work and my get my life back into shape.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Sarcoidosis destroyed my life.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Pray a lot, eat healthy, stay active and Try to be positive and strong even though we are going through all the pain and suffering.
