I have been a chronic snorer for as long as I can remember ( I am in my fifties) as a child I shared a bedroom with my siblings who had to wear ear plugs at night.

As an adult I became increasingly tired during the day but never associated it with my snoring, I would readily fall asleep in many embarrasing situations and many times I fell asleep while driving or at traffic lights.

I saw my doctor on numerous occasions and treatments included having adenoids removed and taking antihistamines for hay fever!! 

After moving house and subsequently changing GPs my new GP who had just been studying sleep problems suggested I had a sleep study and I spent a night at Battle hospital near Reading where I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnoea and was prescribed a CPAP machine.

My first machine was a huge noisy affair but after just one night I felt a huge improvement and because I felt so much better I really perservered with the cumbersome mask and tubing and now some 19 years later my machine is much much smaller and quieter and sleeping with it seems so natural.

This was all pre internet days and I had never heard of sleep apnoea or CPAP and never knew any others who were sufferers so I felt a bit of a freak and really was a bit embarrased by the whole thing but I can honestly say it has changed my life completely and may even have saved my lifeas its not healthy to fall asleep whilst driving lol.

I would really like to be able to give help and or encouragement to any one who is struggling to get used to CPAP, I may not have all the answers to your questions but I can show you by my own example how CPAP can transform your life for the better
