I initially became ill in March 2007, I woke up in excruciating pain and couldn't stop vomiting. I didn't improve over the next 24 hours so went to the doctor who sent me straight to A&E.
At first they diagnosed gallstone and had keyhole surgery to remove it. Unfortunately I didn't get better and deteriorated in hospital around once a month. I was referred to UCLH and they diagnosed me with SOD (this took three years).
I have pain on a daily basis and can't remember being pain free, I have lost weight and struggle to eat because of pain and vomiting.
I have gad a range of procedures over the last 10 years from sphincterotomies, spincteroplasty, celiac plexus nerve blocks and more endoscopies than I've had hot dinners.
I recently went to court to appeal for PIP (Personal Independence Payment) and won, I feel this is a big step forward for SOD.
