Hayley's interview
How did all start?
I was working as a cashier in a bank and started mis reading the figures on the cheques I was processing.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
I think I have a diagnosis.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
There is no treatment . Only genetic trials which I haven’t got on yet .
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
An electric magnifier. I use this on a daily basis.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Not being able to drive
And also not being able to see who people are when they say hello to me.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
They have all reacted well. They all help me with the small things and help me cross a road when needed
What things have you stopped doing?
Driving!! It’s a nightmare.
What do you think about the future?
It is what it is. Live life as I would have before
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
The best where when I could see and still drive because I did not have to rely on anyone
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Drive. Other than that it is not stopping me from doing anything else.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
.....
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Not to let the condition rule your life. Still do what you always wanted to do, wether you need help doing so or not.
