Story about Aniridia .

Beating the odds

Dec 2, 2

By: Angie

Born in rural Canada from a long family history of this disease, I am the 8th generation. My mom and grandfather have it and now my daughter also has it.  My Vision is about 20/100 and has remained stable throughout my young adult life up until now. Obtained a Science Bachelor's degree in Biology in 2000 and have been working as a Canadian Federal Public Servant since 2003.  I've had no surgeries yet but I suffer from severe dry eyes which are causing my sight to blur, migraines, keratopathy and increase sensitivity to light. I started finding other patients through Facebook groups and created the Aniridia Canada group page and Canadian Foundation.  My goal is to educate other patients with proper medical care, new research and general information regarding services to Canadians.  I prefer finding ways  to slow down the progression of this disease therapeutically before entertaining surgeries or drugs.  Seeking to connect with other patients and families.
