The cancer in you

May 10, 2016

The cancer in you

And my Orthopedic Doctor said; “YOU HAVE CANCER IN YOUR BONES – LEGS, ARMS AND POSSIBLY IN YOUR BRAINS AND ORGANS. I CANNO TREAT YOU.

Cancer? Are you telling me I have cancer? How could this be possible?”

These were the words I nervously said while my tears running through my face. And my wife was holding my hand. She was astonished.

I had been having symptoms of pain in my both legs and arms, irregular bowel movements, and bleeding for several months. But like any responsible father who also participated with my kids, full of health-conscious and athletic, I ignored them. My friends and family said it was muscle spasm and irritable bowel syndrome or internal http://www.everydayhealth.com/hemorrhoids/, I couldn’t disagreed.

The symptoms were so strange, but the pain finally became too much to bear. After my heart attack on December 15 2015, and cardiac pain, and second stent implanted  on April 26 2016 this case scenario was confirmed: On March 23th, 2016, I was diagnosed with http://www.everydayhealth.com/colon-cancer/ in my two legs, and both arms.

I had a 11 percent chance of surviving five years. I started thinking of all of the things I wouldn’t live to see and do. To say I was devastated would be an understatement.

It was a leap of fate

I thought and re-thought for a few days trying to figure it out. What did I do wrong? I had zero risk factors for cancer. I had no family history. Why me? There was no plausible answer. I just had to accept that it was “a leap of fate”

Thinking about this situation helped me understand: Yes, bad things do happen to good people, and it’s all in the way you handle it. It’s not the tragedy that confines you — it’s the triumph that defines you. You just have to dig your feet in, commit fully to your goal, and not accept “no” for an answer.

I ask for a Miracle

People often ask for my advice in fighting cancer and facing tough situations in general. The best tip I can offer is to focus on what you are living for and let that lift and push you further than you’ve ever gone before. For me, it has always been my dear wife children and grandchildren who need their Grand Pa. It wasn’t, “I don’t want to die,” but rather, “I can’t die.” That kind of love is why I am still here, and will be for many more (better) birthdays to come. I ask for a miracle.
