A Hyperekplexia story

May 21, 2017

My name is Jared, when I was younger a lot of my falls were chalked up to me being an accident prone kid, after many years of wrongful diagnosis of psychological issues it was finally determined that my condition was indeed neurological, and the diagnosis was HXP.

I did not experience startle falls, or the terrible stiffness until much later (end of my pubescence). But I guess even within a disease we all differ.

The anxiety that this brings is terrible and makes it a very lonely disease, the post trauma and the worry of falls even while medicated are still rough sometimes. But we have to keep our chin up.

I am Hyperekplexia, I am Canadian, I am Newfoundland.

But most of all, I am Jared
