My story.

I'm not sure how to start this, but here it goes. When I was becoming an adult and graduating high school and going to college and doing more with my life, I started having medical problems. The first thing was when I was about 16. I started having really horrible heartburn. That was fine. I could take medication for that, so I did. Then, it was when I was in college when I was 19 years old. It was at the end of summer and I realized I hadn't had my period all of summer. It was strange for me to have that happen. My period has always been weird, but not having it altogether was very strange. So, I went to my doctor and asked about PCOS. I had heard about it because my sister was diagnosed which is why I thought I might have it. I was diagnosed when I was 19 with polycystic ovarian syndrome and put on birth control to help with the symptoms. After that there was a while where nothing happened. But, as I kept going to school and figuring out my life, I noticed something that I had been doing ever since I can remember. I noticed that I had spots on my skin where it was either bleeding or scabbed up. I thought a little bit about it until I heard about dermatillomania also known as excoriation disorder. This disorder is basically just the uncontrollable picking of the skin. It is a mental disorder that is commonly controlled with medication. So, I went about getting mental help and medication. Basically I need medication to live a "normal" life.

I see all of my medical and mental illnesses as a result of the abuse that happened in my family history. It's not a happy thing to think about, but I feel like there should be something good that comes out of this. So, here I am writing to whoever wants to read this and not knowing if anyone will, but this is my life for now and I just live it day by day. If you would like to know more please feel free to ask.

Thank you.

Can I ask about your history?   I  am  working through mine, just curious about what  causes this process to start .  I have been doing this for at least 35 years.   It is hard.

My dad's side is a little unknown because my grandma on that side is good at exaggerating. But, we know she has had breast cancer, a possible miscarriage, some bowel issues, and maybe a few other issues that we might not know about. My maternal grandma had breast cancer and a miscarriage. There isn't much on my mother's side. Other than that I'm not sure where my sister and I get this disorder. We have tried talking to family members, but we're the only cousins on my dad's side and we're the only female cousins on my mom's side. So, it's hard to find out where we got this from. Please feel free to ask more questions. I'm not sure if this is what you were asking for, but you can always correct me. Thanks!
