The Face of Dermatillomania

Sep 14, 2017

By: Linda

I have been picking at my skin ever since I was a child. I'm almost 51 years old and I'm still picking. My body is covered with scars. I have not worn shorts for over 5 years. I have been asked if the scars on my arms were from drug use (they're not). Up until the end of July I used to wear an extremely thick layer of makeup to cover the scabs and bright red marks from picking. My therapist basically nagged me until I stopped wearing makeup. Going outside without makeup has really destroyed my self-esteem but I haven't gone back to wearing it. Instead I have posted a video on my Facebook page explaining my disorder and I've also posted videos on YouTube. My goal is to encourage others to be comfortable in their own skin.
