Year Condition Began: 2008

A vehicular collision of 100km/hr with a moose in 2008 created an abdomen injury from the compression of the impact by the seat belt. Persistent numbness and tingling into foot/feet, pain walking, pain sitting, pain lifting, pain using stairs. Accusations of hypochondriac. Depression, feeling misunderstood by the medical community. Stressful to participate in profession - Heavy lifting. Loss of career. Loss of family. Loss of financial independence and security. Loss of faith in the medical community. Frustrated. Challenges to explain the multitude of nerve symptoms with reproductive organ pain, painful intercourse/ejaculation, low back pain, hip pain, leg pain, electric like zaps and stings in anal area and down the back of the leg into heel, pain at buttock muscles deep in the groin. A pain specialist at Shield Clinic ordered an MRI, 12 years later, a slip on an icy walkway from instability worsened the condition when spine/coccyx contacted the frozen ground, intense pain radiculopathy in hip and global pain. This MRI displayed "clearly" a cyst. To date, a debate with any medical professional the symptomatic Tarlov Cyst, I have had this debate with the College of Physicians and Surgeons as well. A specialist ordered the cyst be drained/aspirated. U of A declined, Vancouver Spine institute declined...the outlook is poor for intervention. Treating with change of career, not sitting for any length of time or at all, Pregablin (lyrica) and CBD oil. Baclofen for tense muscles as the nervous system is Hyper sensitive. I have been using Bilateral forearm crutches for 2 years and sometimes progress or push myself into use of cane. Housing modifications for daily living had to occur. I am working hard to re-locate to a location that has no ice, and or need to shovel snow/mow the lawn as that is not possible. I have been to 6 different physio therapists in the Edmonton area with worsening symptoms from exercises, I have participated in water therapy, that does help. I work on planks/modified planks that help keep my core strong. I have been getting pudendal nerve block treatments, been poked like a pin cushion with injections in the hip, spine, low back, all with little relief. I tried accupuncture multiple time with no relief. Rest, laying down on my side calms the symptoms the best. I hope to be more educated in the future in order to help others with this condition, possibly by way of becoming a surgeon myself. A tall task at my age, I do think it is a devastating situation to have ones life turned upside down by this extremely painful condition. I feel like if I can make an impact on the world, I might feel better about this big problem that most often is dismissed.
