Juliang76's interview
How did all start?
I started having problems with my gait and bladder function.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
I was diagnosed at 35 along with Spina Bifida that I never knew I had.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Keeping a positive outlook on the entire situation.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Accepting the whole thing.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
For the most part family and friends were as supportive as can be but it is hard for them to understand a lot of other things that they cannot comprehend.
What things have you stopped doing?
Working out at full speed like I used to. Living life at full throttle no longer appeals to me. It's more about the long haul now.
What do you think about the future?
I try not to think about the future much. I do my best to be present in the here and now as much as I can. I have found that it helps keep me from making situations worse by not wondering constantly of the what ifs.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Blessed.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Keep your head up. No matter how difficult things might be you have to remember that things could always be worse. As long as you have breath in your lungs and are able to see or hear this beautiful world that we live in, you are doing okay. Do Not Give Up!
