A Williams Syndrome interview .

Toni's interview

How did all start?

I had my little boy 27/11/2013 at 16.42 through emergency section due to baby's heartbeat dropping and him being stuck on my pelvis when he was born he couldn't drink his bottle so ended up being put in special care baby unit for 3 days at 5 days old when he come home he struggled to open his bowels still struggling to take any milk which lead to loads of doctors appointments then at 10 weeks he was found to have a heart murmur but still was not diagnosed till 18months old!

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes we have a williams syndrome diagnosis it took 18months

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

We haven't had any

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Learning how to deal with my son without getting frustrated with him

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Not understanding some of the things my son does

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

Yes very much because I see my son as a different person everyone else sees him as being naughty all the time when really he's not naughty he's just different to other children of his age

What things have you stopped doing?

Going out to the park or where there are plenty of people because my son is to in people's faces and he ends up being the one that's upset because others don't understand why he's like that

What do you think about the future?

It's going to amazing because we make the most of the time we have

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

The last four years I've got two gorgeous little boys one with williams syndrome and the other with nothing at all wrong they have made my life the best it could possibly be

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

I wouldn't change what my son has it's opened my eyes to a completely different world

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Perfect

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Take each day as it comes be positive and enjoy everything you do as tomorrow isn't promised
